Someone here to see me is a video performance, recorded on VHS. The work gives space to an inner child - channeled through VCR. During performative psycho-regression, the childlike voice is conjured and captured on tape, repeating heart-breaking sentiments and manifestations that long for a different state of being. Visually suffocating, with colours constantly shifting across a rainbow palette - the camera forces closeness - denying a rational or distanced relationship to what is being viewed. There’s an unnaturalness in the voice and format, displaced, but emotionally authentic in a longing for connection. Tension oscillates between the intimate therapeutic style and the cruelty of conditions, meaning this fractured character will remain eternally trapped, both technically and psychologically in a loop of endless hope, that someone is here to see me.
